What do you do to make sure you work from JOY every day? \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

My recent lesson:<\/h2>\n

<\/h2>\n

I’m a task-oriented, goal-driven person. \u00a0Because of that, it’s very easy for me to get into “to-do list” mode (or as you’ve heard me call it: my SIS list). \u00a0Which means that each day, I wake up and immediately focus on the items I need to check off my list. \u00a0 This isn’t a bad thing, per se. \u00a0It helps me stay focused and helps me move my business forward. \u00a0I feel accomplished, I feel productive…and that makes me feel good about myself! \u00a0 But over the past few weeks, I was coming to dread my work. \u00a0I didn\u2019t wake up with enthusiasm. \u00a0The to-do lists got longer and I was doing everything in my power to avoid my work. \u00a0Which made no sense to me…I truly love what I do, but I was feeling so overwhelmed under-accomplished. \u00a0I was frozen. I felt like a loser. \u00a0 I questioned myself as an entrepreneur. \u00a0Am I even cut out for this stuff? \u00a0<\/i> \u00a0 As I was crying to a friend, he asked me, \u201cKatie, you\u2019re an adventurous person. \u00a0You and Chris go on adventures all the time on the weekends. \u00a0Do you ever dread those?\u201d \u00a0 \u201cOf course not!\u201d \u00a0I stated. \u00a0\u201cI love them! \u00a0I jump out of bed in the morning and I\u2019m ready to go!\u201d \u00a0 And then he asked me the question that shook me. \u00a0You know, those questions that completely shift your perspective and make things clear? \u00a0Yeah…that one.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, what needs to happen in order for you to jump out of bed with that same enthusiasm every morning during the weekdays?\u201d<\/h3>\n

<\/h3>\n

Immediately, I knew.<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Connect with the WHY. <\/span>\u00a0<\/b>By focusing only on the to-do items, I lose track very easily on WHY I\u2019m doing all this in the first place. \u00a0It gets muddled and forgotten in the endless list of stuff<\/i>.<\/li>\n
  • Choose to PLAY!<\/span> \u00a0<\/strong>Business is a game. \u00a0It’s an endless game of ups and downs and trying things out and failing and succeeding and crying and laughing and everything in between! \u00a0Living in the to-do list and being gratified only by accomplishments takes you completely out of the game. \u00a0You forget this is supposed to be FUN!<\/li>\n
  • Be Grateful.<\/strong> <\/span>One of the things I immediately did after having this conversation with my friend was remind myself of the impact my business has had on others. \u00a0I read over emails, Facebook comments, tweets and reviews that reminded me that people are actually being affected positively by what I do! \u00a0And that immediately put me in a space of gratitude for what I do, the life I lead and the impact I\u2019m able to have!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    My friend ended our brilliant conversation with one single statement:<\/p>\n

    Choose to live from JOY and not from your to-do list.<\/h2>\n
