My parents are blue collar folks.\u00a0 Dad was a postman for 35 years and Mom is a nurse.\u00a0 \u201cFollow what you love to do,\u201d they would tell us, \u201cand the money will follow.\u201d<\/p>\n

When I was 23, I learned what the word\u00a0entrepreneur\u00a0<\/em>meant. \u00a0And as I went through the baby steps of business ownership, I looked everywhere for wisdom and education.\u00a0 Everywhere but home.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Recently, we dropped off my parents after a 2 week Florida vacation that included our local company’s\u00a0Marketers Cruise<\/a>, a bike ride through the Everglades, Halloween gambling and a lot of home repairs.\u00a0 As I sit here reflecting on our time together, I realize that\u00a0the lessons they have taught me are the foundation to my business success!<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Have Fun!<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

If there\u2019s one thing that stands out about my Mom and Dad, it\u2019s that they DO NOT take life too seriously.\u00a0 My 65 year old mother was bouncing around the whole time, pulling practical jokes on us and taking late night spins for her hot fudge Sundays. She laughed and laughed and laughed. \u201cIf you\u2019re not going to have fun, Katzer, what\u2019s the point?\u201d she would say.<\/p>\n

2. Push Yourself – Even When You Don’t Believe You Can<\/h2>\n

<\/h2>\n

My 66 year old dad rode 14 miles in the Everglades. The most he\u2019s ever ridden on a bike is 6 miles. He just kept moving!<\/p>\n

<\/h2>\n

3. Give To Those You Love<\/h2>\n

<\/h2>\n

My husband\u00a0and I were spoiled with house repairs, dinners every night and random presents. In business, this means giving to your customers and clients. They will feel spoiled and completely loyal to you for caring for them.<\/p>\n

<\/h2>\n

4. Work Hard at an UNBREAKABLE Partnership<\/h2>\n

<\/h2>\n

After 45 years, my parents are still in love and exploring life together. It\u2019s freakin\u2019 adorable. As a business owner, the partnerships you create \u2013 business partners or strategic partners \u2013 are vital and the stronger they are, the stronger you and your business are.<\/p>\n

5. Swing on the Rope (Take Risks)!<\/h2>\n

<\/h2>\n

One memorable night was spent making s\u2019mores around a campfire at a friend\u2019s house. A few feet away was a thick rope hanging from a tree. With darkened bushes all around, my mom jumped to her feet, grabbed the rope and swung away.\u00a0 \u201cWeeee!!!\u201d Sometimes, you have to ignore everything scary around you and just swing on the rope!<\/p>\n

When you take a closer look at your parents\u2019 values and how they approach life, there are golden lessons that you can apply directly to your company!<\/p>\n
