Do they manage as much, if not more, than you do?<\/p>\n<p>In many cases, they are the glue that holds it all together\u2026.as long as there is a trusting relationship in\u00a0place! An essential part of the relationship building process is priorities \u2013 do you know what you should\u00a0be spending time on? Do you discuss ideas, goals and top priorities with your right-hand person?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Why do I ask these questions? We are starting to see a pattern in the virtual support industry with\u00a0entrepreneurs who are unhappy with their support person or team. Accountability, time management,\u00a0and lack of skills seem to be the top three issues.<\/p>\n<p>So how can we assist small business owners in finding\u00a0the right fit for their ongoing support needs \u2013 by offering some steps to follow:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1 \u2013 Be Focused<\/strong> \u2013 Being scattered and flying around from activity to activity is not conducive to\u00a0results, instead it creates chaos for you and your support team. Anyone supporting you needs to be\u00a0clear on your vision and goals!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2 \u2013 Consistently Communicate<\/strong> \u2013 Schedule weekly calls, communicate often via email\/ phone\/Skype, bottom line: make time for your support team! The more you invest in the relationship, the more\u00a0ROI you will receive!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3 \u2013 Be Honest<\/strong> \u2013 If a support person is not working out then don\u2019t \u201ctry\u201d to make the relationship\u00a0work \u2013 find other support. Working with a team allows you to draw from any number of support people\u00a0without having to hire constantly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 4 \u2013 Recognize Excellence<\/strong> \u2013 When you do have a support person or team that is doing an excellent\u00a0job \u2013 acknowledge them! An important part of leadership is to recognize attitudes, skills and behavior.<\/p>\n<p>Motivation is a direct result of recognition \u2013 do you ever just reach out to say thank you? Do you express\u00a0appreciation \u201cjust because\u201d? Do you offer incentive, whether monetary or in the form of a gift? Let\u2019s\u00a0face it feeling appreciated goes a very long way in wanting to do more of the same!!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 5 \u2013 Support is an Investment, Not a Cost<\/strong> \u2013 Invest: To spend or devote for future advantage or\u00a0benefit. By investing in support, you have the advantage of more time available, experts in their field\u00a0helping you, and abundant rewards (ie increased sales, more visibility).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 6 \u2013 Share your Future Vision<\/strong> \u2013 You know where you want your business to go \u2013 share those details,\u00a0no matter how small with your support team! Do you have a revenue goal? Do you have a product sales\u00a0goal? Bring your Project Manager into the Big Picture thinking!
