I used to privately roll my eyes every time someone told me they\u00a0had two businesses. \u00a0Or even that they had a day job and were\u00a0<\/span>trying to build their business on the side. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

(Which in an of itself is hypocritically hilarious, since I run two\u00a0<\/span>different businesses myself).<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Just FOCUS on one! <\/span><\/i>I would think to myself. <\/span>\u00a0It would be so much\u00a0<\/span><\/i>easier and produce better results!<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But the reality is we are ALL trying to successfully build businesses\u00a0<\/span>while our time and energy is called elsewhere. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I think one of the things unique to women is that we tend wear a\u00a0<\/span><\/i>lot of hats in our lives: wives, mothers, business women, <\/span><\/i>community leaders, cooks, cleaners, family caregiver, etc. <\/span><\/i><\/span><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

And they\u2019re ALL important to us, so we do our best to \u201cbalance\u201d\u00a0<\/span>them all.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So the question came up in the Biz Women Rock private Facebook Group<\/a>\u2026<\/span>how do you manage growing two businesses at once?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And if you\u2019re doing the \u201cside hustle,\u201d (working your day job\u00a0<\/span>while building up your company on the side), how can you\u00a0<\/span>ensure your energy will last?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And as I stand on the precipice of motherhood for the first time, <\/span>this subject is hitting me square in the eyes. \u00a0So, I figured I\u2019d share\u00a0<\/span>some practical tips.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

1. Accept this truth: You won\u2019t move as quickly as you\u2019d like.<\/b><\/span> \u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Growing two businesses at once or doing the side hustle means that a good chunk of your time simply CANNOT be dedicated to one single business. \u00a0By nature of your choice to do these two things, you will not have the luxury other business women have…focusing on ONE business. \u00a0That means that progress will happen a little slower than you like. \u00a0But don\u2019t worry…this is okay! \u00a0There\u2019s a reason you\u2019ve decided to divide your energy like this, so just <\/span>go easy on yourself<\/i><\/b> when you\u2019re not where you want to be as quickly as you\u2019d like!<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

2. Schedule your life! <\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

Creating a schedule is vital for being the most efficient in both businesses. \u00a0Whether you use a Google calendar, Outlook or a physical calendar, dedicate times in your schedule every week during the optimal times for you to work on your two projects. \u00a0Since I run a local business AND the Biz Women Rock community, here\u2019s what my weekly schedule tends to looks like.<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Screen<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll notice that Mondays and Wednesdays are dedicated to TBBO (Tampa Bay Business Owners<\/a>, my local company). \u00a0Tuesdays and Thursdays are usually dedicated to Biz Women Rock and Fridays are typically spent doing any \u201cleftover\u201d work needed for either company. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This is absolutely vital because it helps me schedule my appointments on the appropriate days so I\u2019m not having an energy shift all of a sudden. \u00a0Meaning, I don\u2019t want to be working on something BWR related and then all of a sudden, I need to fulfill something for TBBO. \u00a0That\u2019s not only frustrating to get out of the BWR flow, but it can really fry your energy! \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

3. Know what you\u2019re going to do with your dedicated time BEFOREHAND. <\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

Now that you have time on your calendar dedicated to your two businesses or your business outside of your day job, take the time each week to plan what you need to be doing with that time. \u00a0My suggestion is to start with a priority list for each week. \u00a0Create a list of your to-do items and then take the most important items out of that list…the ones that will move your business forward to fastest…and put them in your schedule! \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You can do this by actually putting them on your calendar\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

…or by putting them in the notes of that particular dedicated business time. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

4. Have the DISCIPLINE to stick with this schedule.<\/b> \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

You\u2019re human. \u00a0Life happens. \u00a0And it\u2019s easy to let this schedule \u201csoften.\u201d \u00a0I\u2019m guilty of it. \u00a0But I found that when I\u2019m disciplined with this schedule, when I stick to it, I feel a LOT more focused, I get a LOT more done and my business moves forward…fast! \u00a0Need help to stay the course? \u00a0Ask a friend or two to keep you accountable. \u00a0Create a small group of fellow business women who you can check in with once each week. \u00a0Print your calendar and put it up in your wall so you can keep it top of mind. \u00a0Do whatever it takes to stick to your schedule as best as you can!<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

5. When you feel schizophrenic, take a breather…then get focused again.<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

Choosing to build two businesses at once or doing the side hustle after work requires a ton of mental and emotional strength. \u00a0And sometimes, it can be too much (especially with all the other roles you are fulfilling in your life!). \u00a0So when you feel schizophrenic or completely frazzed, just STOP. \u00a0Take a few hours or even a few days to NOT do anything. \u00a0Walk away, breathe and remember <\/span>why<\/span><\/i> you\u2019re doing this. \u00a0When you\u2019re ready to come back to it, create a PLAN before you dive back into the work so that you feel confident that you\u2019re moving ahead strategically. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

6. Connect with other business women. <\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

7. Just keep moving and respect your work<\/b>. \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

You will never get things done as quickly as you\u2019d like. \u00a0But as long as you keep moving forward, your business will progress! \u00a0Sure, you didn\u2019t get your new website live in the 30 days you had originally hoped, but 90 days later, it\u2019s up and running! \u00a0Recognize what a badass you are for managing so many parts and give yourself TONS of credit for the forward movement you\u2019re making!<\/span><\/p>\n
