{"id":3352,"date":"2015-11-02T14:59:50","date_gmt":"2015-11-02T19:59:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bizwomenrock.com\/?p=3352"},"modified":"2015-11-02T15:00:57","modified_gmt":"2015-11-02T20:00:57","slug":"female-entrepreneurs-changing-the-face-of-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/bizwomenrock.com\/beta\/female-entrepreneurs-changing-the-face-of-business\/","title":{"rendered":"Female entrepreneurs changing the face of business"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Written by:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenvilleonline.com\/staff\/10563\/david-dykes\/\" rel=\"author\">David Dykes<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Female entrepreneurs are changing the face of America&#8217;s,\u00a0and South Carolina&#8217;s, economies.<\/p>\n<p>In the 1970s, women owned fewer than five\u00a0percent\u00a0of small businesses in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Today, they own\u00a0about 50 percent\u00a0\u2014\u00a0and that percentage continues to grow rapidly.<\/p>\n<p>In South Carolina, women own about 100,000 small businesses, or\u00a0more than one\u00a0of every four in the state, according to TD Bank, citing U.S. Census Bureau data.<\/p>\n<p>Jeni Kleckley, owner of Monkee&#8217;s of the West End, and\u00a0Kristy Young, owner of the Bella Bridesmaids on Augusta Street, are part of the entrepreneurial growth trend.\u00a0 Both in their 30s, the franchise owners\u00a0have\u00a0a keen eye\u00a0for not only profitability but sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>Kleckley moved into an owner&#8217;s role after managing the boutique clothing and accessories store.\u00a0Young, who has an auditing background, opted to join the excitement of planning weddings with a selection of designer bridesmaids dresses.<\/p>\n<p>Each says that while women entrepreneurs\u00a0continue to take ownership, challenges remain.<\/p>\n<p>More men than women tend to have management experience and confidence in growing their businesses, according to a recent TD Bank survey of small business owners.
