She\u2019s behind the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.geekwire.com\/2014\/official-microsoft-confirms-acquisition-email-app-maker-acompli\/\">acquisition<\/a> of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geekwire.com\/2015\/microsoft-acquires-wunderlist-creator-adding-to-its-crossplatform-productivity-offerings-report-says\/\">handful<\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geekwire.com\/2015\/microsoft-prematurely-confirms-acquisition-calendar-app-maker-sunrise\/\">cross-platform apps<\/a> that have made Outlook one of the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.geekwire.com\/2015\/app-week-microsoft-outlook-ios-android-offers-professional-grade-email-go\/\">best mobile productivity apps around<\/a>. She helped forge partnerships with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geekwire.com\/2015\/microsoft-strikes-deal-with-cyanogen-creating-another-android-inroad\/\">Cyanogen<\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geekwire.com\/2014\/dropbox-microsoft-partner-allow-office-integration\/\">Dropbox<\/a>\u00a0and many others,\u00a0in a move emblematic of the changing culture at\u00a0Microsoft.<\/p>\n<p>A former\u00a0Qualcomm executive, she was<a href=\"http:\/\/www.geekwire.com\/2014\/satya-nadellas-first-big-hire-microsoft-confirms-longtime-qualcomm-exec-peggy-johnson-new-biz-dev-chief\/\">Satya Nadella\u2019s first big hire<\/a> as Microsoft CEO. But on Tuesday night, she wasn\u2019t talking about Microsoft\u2019s broader corporate strategy. Instead, she was making the\u00a0case to change\u00a0the tech industry to better accommodate women as consumers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all have to think about the emerging markets. And you probably have given a lot of thought to the largest emerging markets, China and India,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cBut I think what gets lost is that a bigger emerging market is, surprisingly, women. Women themselves are an emerging market. There are\u00a0more and more women entering into the workforce themselves.
