But some business leaders are trying to perform CPR.<\/p>\n<p>The number of women-owned firms increased by one-and-a-half times the national average between 1997 and 2015\u201474% versus 51%, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.womenable.com\/content\/userfiles\/Amex_OPEN_State_of_WOBs_2015_Executive_Report_finalsm.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The 2015 State of Women-Owned Businesses Report<\/em><\/a> by American Express OPEN.<\/p>\n<p>And other research tells us that those women are crushing it. Seed-stage venture capital firm First Round Capital <a href=\"http:\/\/10years.firstround.com\/#method\" target=\"_blank\">found that its investments in companies<\/a> with women founders performed 63% better than those with management teams that were all men. A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.babson.edu\/news-events\/babson-news\/Pages\/140930-venture-capital-funding-women-entrepreneurs-study.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">September 2014 study<\/a> by Babson College found that businesses with a woman on the executive team are more likely to have higher valuations at both first (64% higher) and last (49% higher) funding rounds.<\/p>\n<p>MORE PROFITS, LESS CAPITAL<\/p>\n<p>But, when it comes to money, the numbers are much bleaker.<\/p>\n<p>Businesses with women on the executive team received just 7% of venture funding between 2011 and 2013, according to that Babson study, and only 2.7% of those companies had a woman CEO.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, just <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sba.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/aboutsbaarticle\/WebsiteReport_asof_10_23_2015.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">11% of Small Business Administration 7(a) loans<\/a> went to businesses where a woman had majority ownership.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fastcompany.com\/3058997\/how-women-entrepreneurs-can-get-more-funding\" target=\"_blank\">&gt;&gt;&gt;READ MORE&lt;&lt;&lt;<\/a><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Gwen Moran If capital is oxygen, women-owned businesses are suffocating.
